Genetic counselors empower patients and their families with information, guidance, and emotional support to help them understand their family history, evaluate genetic testing options, and make informed choices based on test results.

The Ohio Association of Genetic Counselors’ (OAGC) serves to connect and advocate for genetics professionals across the state of Ohio.  Our annual education conference brings together approximately 150+ genetic counselors, genetic counseling students and others interested in the field to receive education on cutting-edge technologies, professional issues and the up-to-date education on genetic disorders and testing. Due to COVID-19, the 2022 Annual Education Conference will be held virtually Thursday April 7, 2022 (afternoon) and Friday April 8, 2022 (morning).  Last year we had a fantastic response with over 240 participants from >20 states!

According to the 2020 Professional Status Survey, Ohio is the workplace of the fifth largest number of genetic counselors in the country with over 100 certified genetic counselors reported1. Ohio genetic counselors have had organized informal meetings for many years to promote the interests of and represent genetic counselors and genetic professionals. In 2019, founding members worked together to formally create the Ohio Association of Genetic Counselors (OAGC).
